noborder Question:

Question about tax and SS in china. My new school does not offer social security or health care, yet I am still paying 25% tax. Does this seem right? Shouldn't the 25% include the SS and health insurance?

Our Answer:

25% is about right for the mandatory income tax presuming your in the higher tax bracket (20+k /mo), Social security is an additional amount roughly 1000rmb per month which gives you heavily discounted healthcare. I recommend get travel insurance instead as this is cheaper and covers more extensively
