Are Online Internships Worth It? New Study Reveals Shocking Results

Blimey, have you wrapped your head around the sheer pandemonium that Covid-19 has unleashed? It's akin to embarking on a wild rollercoaster that we had no intention of boarding. We've had to endure everything from donning face masks to hoarding loo roll - it's been a rollercoaster of a ride. But hold up, let's not forget that the pandemic has also wrought havoc on a much larger scale than just our own lives.

It's also wreaked havoc on the professional world. Just think about internships for a moment. You're in for a challenging experience if you chose to complete an online internship during the pandemic.
It has become difficult for internships to provide the same degree of practical experience that students would ordinarily acquire because of the pandemic. Everyone involved is coping with a trying circumstance.

You're not learning as much as those fortunate enough to have experienced it personally, claims a recent research. So, if you were hoping to pad your resume with some sweet internship experience, you might want to think again.
Maybe just start a TikTok account instead.
Or, I don't know, learn how to bake sourdough bread like everyone else.
In light of this, yesterday saw the unveiling of a new study by the esteemed academics at the Research Center on the Transitions of the University Labor Force at the University of Wisconsin. The survey drew an astounding 10,000 students from 11 different colleges and universities.
Surprisingly, just 22% of respondents said that they had participated in an internship the year prior.
The fact that half of the internships were on-site and half were online is interesting to note.

According to Matthew T.
Hora, co-author of the report and director of the center, there was a surge in interest in online internships when the pandemic hit the United States in the spring of 2020.
However, the study found that these internships did not provide students with the same level of experience as in-person internships.

The study was financed by the National Science Foundation's Rapid Response Research program, which aims to support research related to the pandemic.
