Sadly, it appears that this is merely insufficient. In order to compete with the big boys like Cal Poly Pomona and Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, both of which have already won national recognition for their STEM programs and linkages to industry, the university has now set its sights on evolving into a polytechnic institution. The task can still be a little difficult despite what the authorities seem to be offering. In order to give students the chance for practical experience, they intend to hire more academics and staff, expand their research capacity, and establish even more relationships with nearby firms. For those interested in pursuing STEM careers, it's certainly a thrilling development. Who knows, perhaps they'll even give those Cal Polys a run for their money!
