Money Laundering Probe Threatens Crown Resorts' Operating Permits in Australia

The Australian casino operator, Crown Resorts, is currently facing a probe regarding money laundering. This has been brought to the attention of the financial crime regulator in Australia, causing concern for the company. Crown Resorts operates casinos in Melbourne and Perth, and is also constructing one in Sydney. If found guilty of violations, potential consequences could include hefty fines and revocation of operating permits.

The company already faces separate investigations into questions licenses and how players took the high rollers, much of China.

Last year, Nine Entertainment newspapers reported allegations that the Crown Melbourne had business ties with tour operators suspected links with crime in Asia.

The regulator, Australia transaction reports and Analysis Center (AUSTRAC), is yet to comment on the announcement on Monday or whether it is related to the allegations.

In a statement, Corona said AUSTRAC had expressed concern after reviewing the "customer management identified as high-risk and politically exposed persons" from his casino in Melbourne.

They included "concern regarding ongoing customer due diligence" and meet a "money laundering / financing program to combat terrorism."

Corona added that it would cooperate with the investigation. At one point on Monday, its shares fell more than 9%.
