While being a native English speaker is certainly advantageous and common among international school candidates in South Korea, it's **not strictly required** to teach English there. Many schools actively hire qualified non-native speakers who possess the necessary strong command of grammar, extensive vocabulary knowledge, teaching experience with children/youth, excellent communication skills including online platforms, relevant ESL/TESOL certification or qualifications (like a Bachelor’s degree), and passion for language instruction. These factors demonstrate capability to teach English effectively without necessarily needing native speaker status as the absolute baseline qualification.
